M3 Creative Academy has relaunched Composition Classes with LIVE instruction every week.

Since 2015, our Composition for Kids Classes has been one of our most popular services. Now, we are excited to relaunch the program as Composition Club. Each week, students will meet with the instructor in our group class setting and explore how music is made in a self-paced, friendly environment, that also allows for personal feedback and our expert instruction.

Class Description

Composition Club is for imaginative, young minds who are eager to explore creating music of their own.

Start At Any Time. Our class is self-paced, starting with the most basic elements of music and branches out to enable students to compose larger pieces in various styles.

Explore Music All Week Long. Beyond each 45-minute class, students will have access to instructional videos to help them learn new techniques and explore different styles.

Learning Goals

Students will learn to…

     - Read Music

     - Read Harmonic and Melodic Intervals

     - Compose Melodies with appropriate Harmonies and Accompaniment

     - Use Musical Form to organize and strengthen their ideas

Students will become confident composers and experience growth in every musical discipline.

Teacher Expertise

Lisa Carter will be the primary instructor. She started learning violin at the age of four, then piano at the age of ten where she learned to improvise and compose. She received a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Biola University in the spring of 2019 and has worked as a professional composer for the past several years.

Matt Murray will also instruct the class. He has a Bachelor of Music in Education from Chapman University and over 20 years of experience as a music educator. He has taught composition since 2015 when he wrote M3 Creative Academy’s initial composition curriculum. He is the founder of M3 Creative Academy and lead instructor for the studio.

Homework

No homework is required, but we hope your kids don't think practicing is homework. We like to encourage our students to play outside of class during the week. To help students have fun and advance toward proficiency, we offer short video lessons for all assignments.

Supply List

Computer or iPad

Students will need an internet-connected computer (preferred) or iPad compatible with Zoom and can easily switch between Zoom and a browser window with Noteflight Learn. Headphones are also recommended but not required.

How Do We Encourage Progress

Our entire Composition Club program is broken into 16 levels named after great composers. At the completion of each level, students will earn a colorful button mailed directly to you. Students can earn other buttons by participating in studio-wide events like virtual recitals and studio nights.
